Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Amrit,

I hope you are doing well. I would like to share that i'm just rented a house last week by the lake for the summer.

The house is very beautiful and the view from my window is awesome. My house has three rooms with attach washroms and one kitchen with open dining area. There is a small parking area and playground near my house. The lake distacnce is not much from my house.

I spend most of the time in my balcony beacuse i enjoyed the lake view and fresh air there. On the weekend i always go to the park that is near the lake. The most favourite is sunset view.

I would like you to invite on my house. Its being a long time since we meet. Please come next weekend to my home . we do lots of activities and i will show you the view of lake.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Wishes,

Harman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requested points: you describe the house and its surroundings, explain how you spend time there, and invite Amrit to visit next weekend. Details such as the balcony, lake view, nearby park and planned activities make the message relevant and personal. The invitation is clear, and the friendly opening and closing suit the relationship. To make the ideas more fully extended, add a little more specific information—for example, what activities you might do together or what makes the house especially comfortable. The description of how you spend your time is understandable, but currently relies on a few brief statements rather than developing the experience in detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with the news, moves to the house and your routine, and ends with an invitation and sign-off. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these topics, and phrases such as “On the weekend” and “I look forward to hearing from you” support the progression. Some links between ideas are abrupt, however, as in the shift from the house’s facilities to the lake’s distance, and the routine paragraph contains several short statements without much connection. Use a few natural linking phrases to show relationships between details, and check spacing after full stops. This would make the cohesion more consistently smooth rather than occasionally mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough everyday vocabulary to communicate the main message, including “balcony,” “playground,” “fresh air” and “sunset view.” The friendly tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling and collocation errors make the writing less natural, such as “awesome,” “attach washroms,” “lake distacnce” and “invite on my house.” Some phrases are also repeated, including “house” and “view.” Aim for more precise, natural expressions and proofread spelling; for example, describe the house as “spacious” or the lake as “a short walk away.” Greater variety and more accurate collocations would strengthen the vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The message is generally understandable, and you attempt more than isolated simple sentences, for example, “I spend most of the time in my balcony because I enjoyed the lake view and fresh air there.” However, verb forms and sentence construction are not consistently controlled. “I'm just rented” should be “I’ve just rented,” while “Its being a long time since we meet” needs a clearer structure, such as “It’s been a long time since we met.” There are also errors with articles, prepositions and punctuation, including “in my balcony” and missing spaces after full stops. Practise accurate past and present-perfect forms, and combine ideas into correctly punctuated sentences to improve control.
