Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Aman,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing a quick note to inform you that I have rented a house near a lake to spend my summer vacations. It is a big house with three bedrooms with attached bathrooms, and one living area and kitchen. It is surrounded by greenery with tall trees and beautiful flowers. A lake beside the house makes this place more appealing and attractive for visitors.
I am spending quality time with my family members by going for a walk, playing outdoor activities, preparing food outdoor on a barbecue, enjoying eating, and having conversations with my family. I would be a great experience on such a wonderful location, which will be helpful to create unforgettable memories. I would also prefer to take photographs with my loved ones at different beautiful places nearby.
I would love to invite you to join us during this summer vacation. It would mean a lot to have you there. Please let me know if you can make it.
Hope you can join us!
Best regards.
Raman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter clearly covers all three requested points: you describe the house and its setting, explain how you spend time there, and invite Aman to visit. Details such as “three bedrooms with attached bathrooms” and the lake beside the house make the description relevant, while “Please let me know if you can make it” gives the invitation a clear next step. The friendly tone is appropriate throughout. The activities are listed, but the account of how you spend your time could be extended with a specific example or detail, and the invitation could include a suggested date or activity. Overall, the purpose is clear and the ideas are supported, though some are presented generally rather than fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear progression: an opening explains the news, the next paragraphs describe the house and your activities, and the closing invites your friend. Paragraphing helps distinguish these purposes, and phrases such as “I would love to invite you” make the shift to the invitation easy to follow. The sequence within the activities paragraph is understandable, although several actions are joined in one long list, which makes the flow less smooth. The repeated references to “this wonderful location” and “beautiful places nearby” could also be linked more precisely to the earlier description. Varying the transitions and grouping related activities into a more developed sentence would make the cohesion more flexible.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly letter, including descriptive phrases such as “surrounded by greenery,” “tall trees,” and “unforgettable memories.” These choices help convey the setting and your enthusiasm. However, some wording is repetitive or imprecise: “appealing and attractive” repeats the same idea, while “playing outdoor activities” is not a natural collocation. “Summer vacations” and “quality time” are understandable but somewhat general in this context. Aim for more precise, natural combinations and avoid using two near-synonyms together. The meaning remains clear, but greater control of collocation and more varied vocabulary would make the description sound more fluent and personal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, such as “A lake beside the house makes this place more appealing and attractive for visitors.” Most ideas remain easy to understand, and the opening and invitation are grammatically clear. Some errors occur in sentence construction and verb forms. For example, “I would be a great experience” needs a subject such as “It,” and “which will be helpful to create” would be clearer as “which will help us create.” The activity list also shifts between forms, including “going,” “playing,” and “preparing,” before “enjoying eating.” More consistent parallel structure and careful checking of clauses would improve accuracy while preserving the range of sentence forms you attempt.
