Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sarah,
I hope you are doing well. I am very excited to tell you that I have rented a house by a lake for this summer. Surprisingly, the house is facing towards the sunrise direction and it gives a beautiful experience in the morning with the sound of wind and birds chirping. Moreover, this unit comes with a patio seating with an umbrella on it's roof. Supermarket and public transit is easily accessible.
That being said, my day here starts with a cup of tea in a peaceful enviornment with no noise of car horns. Then the whole family comes together for having a brunch followed by an hour of playing together with our children. At night, I usually go for a solo walk in the nearby forest area with a beautiful lighting arrangement.
Hence, I would love to invite you and your family over for the upcoming weekend. I assure we will have an amazing time. Along with this, the city is organising fire works at the same time of your visit.
Hoping to see you soon. Please let me know if you have might have concerns.
Yours lovingly,
Muskan Arora

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three required points: you describe the lakeside house and its patio, explain your family’s routine and evening walks, and invite Sarah and her family for the weekend. The details about sunrise, birdsong and the planned fireworks make the invitation personal and relevant. The main ideas are clear and supported, although a few are less fully developed: for example, “a beautiful experience in the morning” does not explain much about the view or the house itself, and the activities could include more detail about what you enjoy doing by the lake. A warmer, more specific invitation—such as suggesting a day for swimming or a lakeside meal—would extend the ideas further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression from introducing the rental and describing it, to outlining your daily routine, and then inviting Sarah to visit. Paragraphing supports this structure, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Then,” and “At night” help the reader follow the sequence. Some transitions feel slightly mechanical or do not express the relationship between ideas precisely: “That being said” suggests a contrast that is not present, while “Hence” is a formal-sounding lead-in to a friendly invitation. The closing also moves quickly from the invitation to the fireworks and then to the sign-off. Use simpler, more natural links and connect the fireworks directly to why the visit would be enjoyable.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly letter, including descriptive details such as “sunrise,” “birds chirping,” “peaceful environment,” and “solo walk.” These choices help create a sense of place and routine. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural word choices and collocations, such as “facing towards the sunrise direction,” “patio seating,” and “beautiful lighting arrangement.” “Enviornment” is misspelled, and “fire works” should be written as one word. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Choose familiar, accurate phrases rather than combining words in unusual ways, and proofread spelling and compound words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the sentence beginning “I am very excited to tell you that…” and the routine described with “followed by.” Most ideas remain easy to understand, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “Supermarket and public transit is” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “with an umbrella on it’s roof” uses the wrong form of the possessive pronoun. The phrase “for having a brunch” is also awkwardly structured, and “if you have might have concerns” contains an incorrect verb construction. Review agreement, possessives and modal verb patterns, and read the letter aloud to catch sentences that do not sound grammatically complete.
