Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Rajat,

I hope you are doing well. I wanted to inform you that I have rented a house by the professor's lake for this summer.

It is a very big furnished house with 4 bedrooms and large living area. It has a large backyard with lots of space to play different kinds of outdoor games and enjoy a beautiful summer evening on the chairs. One thing I like about this house is the view of lake from my bedroom. It has a wonderful view especially when the sun rises in the morning.

I spend my time here by doing different activities like cooking delicious food for myself. There is a gym also inside this house where I spend my most of the time to keep myself fit. Sometimes I go for fishing near the lake in the evening to spend some time outdoors.

Next weekend, I am planning to have a party with you at my house so that we can enjoy and spend beautiful time together. I hope you will accept my invitaion and let me know in advance so that I can do arrangements for the party. See you soon.

Best Regards

Ankit

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three requirements clearly: you describe the furnished house and its lake view, explain that you cook, use the gym and go fishing, and invite Rajat to a party next weekend. The details about the bedroom view at sunrise and fishing by the lake make the message personal and relevant. The invitation also asks your friend to confirm in advance, giving it a practical purpose. To make the ideas more fully developed, add a little more about what you enjoy doing at the house or what you and Rajat could do together during the visit. Overall, the purpose and friendly tone are clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear, logical order: you introduce the rental, describe the property, explain your activities, and finish with an invitation. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “One thing I like” and “Sometimes” guide the progression. The closing is appropriate for a personal letter. Some linking is a little repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “It has” and “spend,” and the final paragraph combines the invitation, request for a reply and arrangements in one long sequence. Varying the transitions and separating the invitation from the practical request would make the flow more polished.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main details, with relevant terms such as “furnished,” “backyard,” “outdoor games” and “fishing.” However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural, which limits the range and control shown. “Professor’s lake” is unclear in this context, while “spend my most of the time” and “spend beautiful time together” are awkward collocations. There is also a spelling error in “invitaion.” Aim for more natural phrases and avoid repeating general words such as “large,” “beautiful” and “spend.” More precise descriptions of the house and activities would make the letter sound more fluent and personal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the relative clause in “a view … especially when the sun rises” and the purpose clause “so that we can enjoy…”. Most sentences are understandable, and errors do not prevent the reader from following the message. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain: “large living area” needs an article, “view of lake” needs “the,” and “There is a gym also inside this house” has awkward word order. In “I spend my most of the time,” the possessive construction is incorrect. Review articles, word order and possessive forms, and try to maintain accurate structures when combining several ideas in one sentence.
