Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Ali,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to inform you that I have rented a house for the summer.

The area I chose to stay is very serene. The house is cozy and it has a wooden infrastructure. The rooms are spacious and crafted with traditional Kashmiri designs. Moreover, the furniture is a blend of modern and tranditional designs. The house itself is surrounded by trees and a lake beside that gives it a spectacular view.

I am really enjoying my time here in nature. The fresh air and beautiful scenary is very comforting to the eyes and mind. Additionally, I am receiving complementary food here which is a mix of desi and modern cuisine. I also go out for a walk in the evening and the chirping voices of birds are a blessing to my ears.

I would like to invite you here to spend some time with me. I know you have a busy schedule but believe me if you spend a few days here we will make beautiful memories together.

I am direly looking forward to seeing you.

Your friend,

Faryal Riaz

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three points clearly: you describe the lakeside house, explain how you spend your time, and invite Ali to visit. Details such as the spacious rooms, Kashmiri designs, evening walks, and birdsong make the account personal and relevant. The invitation is warm and gives a reason to come, especially in “we will make beautiful memories together.” To strengthen the response further, develop a few details more specifically. For example, you could say what you do at the lake or give a possible time for Ali to visit, rather than relying mainly on general descriptions such as “beautiful scenery” and “spend a few days here.” Overall, the purpose and friendly tone are sustained throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear progression: it opens with the news, moves from the house to your activities, and ends with the invitation and sign-off. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow each part of the task, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Additionally,” and “I also” connect related details. The sequence is easy to understand, though some transitions feel a little formulaic, and the house description could flow more naturally. For instance, “The house itself is surrounded by trees and a lake beside that gives it a spectacular view” makes the relationship between the house, trees, and lake less clear. Use more natural links and clearer references so cohesion supports the message without drawing attention to itself.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly letter, including descriptive choices such as “serene,” “spacious,” “spectacular,” and “chirping.” These help convey the setting and your enjoyment. There are also some inaccurate or unnatural choices that keep the vocabulary from being consistently precise: “wooden infrastructure” would be better expressed as “wooden structure,” and “complementary food” does not clearly mean food included with the stay. Spelling slips such as “tranditional” and “scenary” are noticeable, while “chirping voices” is an awkward collocation. Check spelling and choose phrases that sound natural in context; this will make your descriptions more fluent and precise without changing the friendly tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The response includes both straightforward sentences and more developed structures, such as “I know you have a busy schedule but believe me if you spend a few days here we will make beautiful memories together.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the letter uses present forms appropriately to describe your stay. Some grammatical and punctuation issues remain. In “The fresh air and beautiful scenary is very comforting,” the compound subject requires “are”; in the invitation sentence, commas would clarify the clauses (“Believe me, if you spend…”). The phrase “a lake beside that gives it” also has an unclear grammatical reference. These are generally manageable, but more consistent agreement, clause punctuation, and sentence control would make the writing more accurate.
