Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Aman,

I am writing to let you know that i have booked a house for this summer. I decided to spend the quality time with you and my family members.

The house has two floors in which 1 large living room, dinning room and 4 bed rooms. It is well-furnished and the garage is available too.

If in case somebody needs to do study or work, there is study room. There is a swimming pool where we can swim all together and relaxed. There is a trail nearby the house where we can go for hiking. Moreover, there a is garden in the backyard where we both can do gardenning which is our similar hobby.

I hope you will like this idea and will join me sooner.I think this is the best time we can both spend the quality time together.

I am looking forward for your response.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover all three requested points: you describe the house and its facilities, mention activities such as swimming, hiking and gardening, and invite Aman to visit. The details about the study room and nearby trail make the letter relevant and personal. However, some parts are less fully developed than others. The invitation is indirect in “I hope you will like this idea and will join me sooner”; give a clear invitation and suggest when your friend could come. The opening says you want to spend time with your family, while the rest focuses on spending time with Aman, so clarify who is expected to visit and what the plan is. A little more detail about your daily routine would also make the account of your time there fuller.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall shape: an opening, a description of the house and activities, an invitation, and a closing. The sequence is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” help connect details. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some control of progression. To make the organisation more polished, separate the house description from the activities more clearly, and use transitions that show the relationship between ideas rather than simply adding another point. Some sentences run together, as in “There is a study room. There is a swimming pool,” and missing spaces after full stops interrupt the flow. The invitation and closing could also be grouped into a distinct final paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main details, including “well-furnished,” “swimming pool,” “trail,” and “backyard.” These choices suit the topic, and the reader can understand the intended meaning. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make the letter sound less natural: “spend the quality time,” “join me sooner,” “dinning,” and “gardenning.” Some phrases are also imprecise, such as “do gardenning which is our similar hobby.” Aim for more natural expressions and check spelling carefully. More varied language for describing the setting and activities would add flexibility without making the friendly tone overly formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and most of the message remains understandable. There are, however, some errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms. “The house has two floors in which 1 large living room…” is an incomplete construction; write, for example, “The two-storey house has a large living room, a dining room and four bedrooms.” In “There is a swimming pool where we can swim all together and relaxed,” the verb form should remain parallel (“swim … and relax”). Other issues include the missing article in “do study or work,” the extra “a” in “there a is garden,” and inconsistent capitalisation of “I.” Review articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries to improve accuracy.
