Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Ayesha,

How have you been? I've an exciting news for you guess what?

Let me tell you, I have rented a house near the canal which is quite famous, namely Rahwali lake. As you may know, how blistering summer is in our area so I decided to move this summer in a pleasant environment near by tha lake.

The house is extremely fascinating with its beautiful surroundings. It is two bedroom apartment each with an attached bathroom. What I like most about this house is its balcony which provides a splended view of stream.

I feel over the moon to shift here we all family spend quality time with each other among naturally peacfull environment. In the evening lights reflect their lights into the lake water and present such an asthetic image that I wish you should come to visit and enjoy with us.

I would be glad to invite you to spare some time and come to our house. It has been long ago we didn't see each other therefore, this is the best opportunity to meet. I hope you coul'd come as soon as possible.

I look forward to catching up.

lots of love,

Sabiha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The letter covers all three required points: you describe the lakeside house, explain that your family spends time together there, and invite Ayesha to visit. The details about the two bedrooms, attached bathrooms, balcony and evening reflections make the description relevant and personal. The invitation is also clear, especially in “I would be glad to invite you.” Some parts are less fully developed: your account of how you spend your time is brief, and the house description could explain more about its facilities or setting. The opening also gives background about the summer heat, but the purpose of the letter could be stated more directly. Adding one or two specific activities and a practical suggestion for the visit would make the response more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The message has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with a greeting and news, moves to the house and your experience there, then makes an invitation and closes warmly. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “What I like most” and “therefore” guide the reader through your points. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical, however. For example, “I feel over the moon to shift here we all family spend quality time” joins several ideas without clear sentence boundaries, while “I hope you could come as soon as possible” repeats the invitation without adding a new detail. Use clearer transitions and ensure each paragraph develops one main point; this would make the progression smoother and the references easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly letter and attempt more descriptive choices, including “blistering summer,” “beautiful surroundings,” and “over the moon.” These help convey enthusiasm and create a picture of the setting. Some less common choices are inaccurate or do not collocate naturally: “fascinating” is not the most suitable description of a house, and “present such an aesthetic image” sounds unnatural in this context. There are also spelling errors, including “splended,” “peacfull,” and “asthetic,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural expressions rather than choosing elaborate words where a simpler phrase fits better. Proofreading spelling and checking common word combinations would strengthen your vocabulary control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, such as “As you may know…” and the sentence describing the evening lights. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “I've an exciting news” has an incorrect article and construction, “It is two bedroom apartment” needs an article and plural form, and “we all family spend” has faulty word order and agreement. Sentence boundaries are also missing in “I feel over the moon to shift here we all family spend quality time.” Review articles, plural nouns, verb forms and punctuation, and separate joined ideas into complete sentences. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentence attempts easier to read.
