Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to request you for looking my bag that I forgot in one of your taxies. I would really appreciate fopr this favor for me.

In clearly remeber that I had my bag with me when I was travelling in your taxi; however, suddenly I received an urgent phone call from my manager due to which I was in rush and I forgot to carry my bag before leaving. Additionally, I had so many other items with me as well at that time owing to which I did not realise that I am forgetting my bag in the taxi.

It was a medium sized totes leather bag which is brown in colour. Additionally, it has a long sling. Describing about the bag it has 2 big pockets and one small pocket outside. In the ouer pocket, there was some cash around 100 dollar and in the inner pockets some cosmetic things, such as lipstic and nailpaint.

Could you please favour me by contacing your taxi driver, if he is able to find my bag. It was the time of evening yesterday around 5:00 o' clock when I left the taxi.

Waiting to hear from you soon,

Yours faithfully,

Manpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter clearly addresses all three requirements: you explain that an urgent call distracted you as you left the taxi, describe the brown leather bag and its pockets and contents, and ask the manager to contact the driver. The time, “yesterday around 5:00,” also gives useful information for tracing the journey. These details make the request specific and relevant. To strengthen the response further, make the explanation of the loss more direct and clarify whether the taxi company can identify the vehicle from the time or any journey details. The request is polite, but could specify what action you would like the manager to take if the driver has found the bag.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear overall progression: the opening states its purpose, the next paragraph explains how the bag was left behind, the following paragraph describes it, and the closing asks for help. Paragraphing supports the reader, and linking expressions such as “however” and “Additionally” show how details relate. Some connections are less smooth because “Additionally” is repeated and the description shifts abruptly from the bag’s appearance to its contents. The final request could also connect more explicitly to the earlier journey details. Use a wider range of natural transitions and avoid repeating the same linker to make the progression feel more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the situation and provide a reasonably specific description, including “urgent phone call,” “medium sized,” “leather bag,” “long sling,” and “inner pockets.” However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice or collocation errors reduce precision: “taxies,” “fopr,” “remeber,” “ouer,” “lipstic,” and “contacing.” Phrases such as “request you for looking my bag” and “Describing about the bag” are also unnatural. These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but they show limited control of common expressions. Focus on accurate spelling and natural combinations such as “ask you to look for” and “contact the driver.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “however” and a reason clause beginning “due to which.” The main events remain understandable, but errors occur across sentence patterns and verb forms. For example, “I am writing to request you for looking” has an incorrect construction, while “I did not realise that I am forgetting” shifts tense in a past-time account. “It was a medium sized totes leather bag” also has an unclear noun structure, and “in the inner pockets some cosmetic things” lacks a complete clause. Practise accurate request forms, consistent past-tense narration, and complete sentences. Greater control of these patterns would make the letter easier to read.
