Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir,
I am writing this letter to explain you about my bag which i forgot yesterday in one of your taxi. I put my bag in the trunk, after arriving at home, I did not realize that I had my bag with me or not.
In regards of bag description, it is in Black leather. It has logo of Guess in big words in the center with silver colour. There are three keychains attached with my bag. One is in the pink colour and it is doll. Second is the ice-cream and the last one is the black small teddy. There are 2 zips attached to it.
I would like to ask your manager to help me to find this bag because there are various documents which are essential for me. Despite having any issue related money, please do not vary about it, I will pay everything. I just want my bag back.
I hope you will take my problem seriously and find my bag.
Yours sincerely,
Preet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: explaining how the bag was lost, describing the bag, and requesting assistance. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the request for help could be more clearly articulated. The explanation of the loss is slightly confusing, as the phrasing 'I did not realize that I had my bag with me or not' is contradictory. However, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader understands the situation. To improve, ensure that the sequence of events is logically presented and that the request for assistance is direct and professional.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure of the request. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the description and finally the request for action. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. For example, 'In regards of' is an awkward transition, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. The use of referencing (e.g., 'it', 'this') is generally clear, but the overall flow would benefit from a wider range of linking words to connect ideas more naturally.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to describe the bag and the situation effectively. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'explain you about' (should be 'explain to you') and 'do not vary about it' (likely meant 'worry'). While the description of the bag is detailed, the phrasing is sometimes repetitive. The range of vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'in one of your taxi' (should be 'taxis'), 'it is in Black leather' (should be 'it is made of black leather'), and 'One is in the pink colour and it is doll' (should be 'a doll'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors throughout. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
