Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
My name is PriyaBhavana, a software developer residing in Mississauga.I am writing this letter to file a complaint against a lost bag.
I took ride in one of your taxies yesterday from Hogan drive to Kindered condoniums in Mississauga. As I had lot of shopping bags in my hands I missed picking my handbag while getting off the car and it took a while to for me realise about the lost bag. However, I tried to reach out to the driver multiple times from the app but the call kept on disconnecting .My bag is oval in shape, yellow colour with green stripes on it. It has 2 zips on the front and one secret zip inside. You should be able to see my bank cards as well as my driver license in the middle zip (Inside).
Can you please investigate this and send it back to to the below address:
PriyaBhavana
Flat 1004,
Kindered condoniums,
Eglinton west 25,Mississauga
Hope you will

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points: explaining how the bag was lost, describing the bag, and requesting assistance. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the letter ends abruptly with an incomplete sentence ('Hope you will'), which is a significant omission that affects the overall task completion. To improve, ensure you include a proper closing statement and a formal sign-off, such as 'Yours faithfully,' followed by your name. The content is relevant, but the lack of a proper conclusion prevents it from being a fully developed response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction to the incident, the description, and finally the request for help. Paragraphing is attempted, but the structure is somewhat fragmented. The use of cohesive devices is limited; for instance, the transition between the description of the bag and the request for help is a bit abrupt. To improve, use more varied linking words and phrases to connect your ideas more smoothly, and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus. The abrupt ending also disrupts the overall coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message, such as 'residing', 'investigate', and 'shopping bags'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as 'taxies' (taxis), 'condoniums' (condominiums), and 'realise about' (realise I had lost). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring correct spelling of common nouns related to the context of your letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I took ride' (I took a ride), 'it took a while to for me realise' (it took a while for me to realise), and 'driver license' (driver's license). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after periods. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points. To improve, pay closer attention to article usage, prepositions, and basic sentence construction to ensure greater accuracy.
