Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you in radiant health, I am writing this letter to inform you that, I lost my bag when I took a taxi for my evening maths class. Moreover, I put my bag at back seat in taxi and when I went to my class I didn't remember to take a bag from car. So, at first I bring a bag but when I decide to study after sometime I felt that I forgot my bag.
In addition to, bag was black in colour and it was not that huge. A part from that, bag had a pink colour texture in that was written a barbie doll and bag had one kitchen of cherry. And, in my bag there are some important documents related to my classes and have an id in it.
So, I am requesting to get my bag back to your company if you find a bag of this type and contact me as fast as you can. And I will give my contact number to you [redacted phone].
Yours Sincerely
Ami

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: explaining the loss, describing the bag, and requesting assistance. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'radiant health' is slightly unnatural for a business communication. The ideas are relevant and clear, though the description of the bag could be more precise to ensure the manager can identify it effectively. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the student successfully communicates the necessary details to the taxi company manager.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. There is a clear progression of ideas from the incident to the description and finally the request. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In addition to, bag was...' and 'A part from that'. While the message is easy to follow, the transitions between sentences could be smoother and more varied to achieve a higher band score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'kitchen of cherry' (likely meaning 'keychain') and 'put my bag at back seat'. The phrasing is often repetitive, and the student relies on basic descriptors. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise nouns and adjectives to describe objects and situations, and ensure that common collocations are used correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' is often missing), preposition usage, and punctuation (e.g., comma splices in the first paragraph). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are noticeable and occur throughout the text. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles to improve accuracy.
