Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter covers all three bullet points: explaining how the bag was lost, describing the bag, and requesting assistance. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the bag is brief, and the explanation of the loss could be more clearly linked to the sequence of events. While the task requirements are met, the response lacks the depth and detail required for a higher band score. The inclusion of the license plate number is a positive, relevant detail that helps the reader.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the narrative. There is a clear progression from the introduction to the details of the incident and the final request. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Transitions between sentences are occasionally abrupt, such as the jump from the phone call to the license plate number. While the overall arrangement is coherent, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect ideas more naturally.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate the necessary information clearly. There are some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'lagagues' instead of 'luggage', 'in blue colour' instead of 'blue in colour', and 'nect' instead of 'next'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a limited range of vocabulary. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common nouns and adjectives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in one of your taxi', 'in corner of it'), incorrect preposition usage ('discussing duties... because of that call'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('it contain'). While the meaning is generally clear, these errors are persistent throughout the text. The student should focus on basic sentence construction, particularly the use of articles and verb tense consistency, to improve accuracy and reduce the frequency of errors.
