Student answer (Band 7.0)
Hi Sir/Madam,
I hope you are doing well!
I am Dhruvil Patel and have booked a taxi yesterday when I was travelling from Scarborough to Downtown Toronto. Unfortunately, I forgot my handbag in one of your car. If I am not wrong then the taxi number is DBXW 875 and driver name is Mr. smith.
Actually, I was going to my friend birthday party and I was running late that time. So, once we reached to location I immeditely get off the car and enter in the party place and I forgot to take my bag which I kept it beside me. I get to know that I forgot bag in the car when I reached to front deska and they were asking for an invitation card.
I would happy to describe a bag to identify easily. It is a black leather bag and you can see the white strips on it and have a dog kichean on it. There is two zips and one of them you can find invitation and photo copy of my driving licence and a PR card.
I would be really grateful if you help to find it and handover to me.
I hope you will be consider my request and work on it. I am waiting for your positive response on it.
Your Faithfully,
Dhruvil Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining how the bag was lost, describing the bag, and requesting assistance. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a company manager. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented, allowing the reader to understand the situation and the specific details of the lost item. To reach a higher band, ensure that the opening and closing salutations are consistent with the formal tone; for instance, 'Dear Sir or Madam' should be paired with 'Yours faithfully' rather than 'Your Faithfully'. Overall, the task is fulfilled effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the introduction of the incident to the description of the item and finally the request for help. Paragraphing is used to separate these distinct ideas, which helps the reader navigate the text. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. While the flow is clear, the transition between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition') to create a smoother narrative. The referencing is generally clear, though some minor mechanical errors in sentence structure slightly affect the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your message clearly. You successfully used specific terms like 'invitation card', 'driving licence', and 'PR card'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'enter in the party place' (should be 'entered the party venue') and 'dog kichean' (should be 'keychain'). Additionally, 'I would happy to describe' is grammatically incorrect. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and common collocations to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully convey your meaning, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and articles. For example, 'have booked a taxi' should be 'booked a taxi', and 'I immediately get off' should be 'I immediately got off'. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and preposition usage, such as 'forgot my handbag in one of your car' (should be 'cars'). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the core message. Focusing on consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
