Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear sir,

I am writing this letter to request you to find my bag which I left in the taxi. I booked your taxi at August 5, 2026 around 4:00 pm. I had interview so that's why I was in rush. I forgot to bring my bag with me when I was reached at my destined location.

My bag was black in color and leather fabric. It has a Michal kores brand logo in the front of it and inside you could see my ID's. It's quite important for me because all my stuff inside the bag.

I would request you to help me to figure it out my bag and courier it on my address 12515 wells place, surrey, Canada. I would really appreciate it if you could solve my problem as soon as possible.

Thank you for time and consideration. I look forward to your response.

Your faithfully,

Amrita

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: explaining the loss, describing the bag, and requesting assistance. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, although the opening 'Dear sir' should be 'Dear Sir or Madam' as instructed. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat brief. For instance, the description of the bag could be more detailed to assist the manager in identifying it. However, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the request for action is explicitly stated, meeting the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the initial situation to the description and finally the request. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'because' and 'so that's why', though some transitions are a bit simplistic. The use of paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, and the overall structure helps the reader follow the narrative without difficulty.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey the necessary information clearly. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'Michal kores' (likely a misspelling of Michael Kors) and 'ID's' (which should be 'IDs'). The phrasing 'figure it out my bag' is slightly unnatural; 'locate my bag' would be more precise. While the range is sufficient to communicate the message, it lacks the variety and precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I had interview' (missing article), 'when I was reached' (incorrect passive voice), and 'Thank you for time' (missing article). Additionally, 'Your faithfully' is an incorrect closing; it should be 'Yours faithfully'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the letter.
