Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to request you yesterday I booked a taxi from your company (Vansh dealing). I think I left my bag in the taxi because last time I carry my bag with me in the taxi to go to home, however when I look for my mobile charger I remember I always kept the charger in the bag even I try to find my bag but I don't find it.

I booked a white civic Honda car with plate number AX123 and I mentioned address for pickup Sheridan college and drop off address of my home. I vividly remember I take my bag with me from my college and I keep the bag on the seat, then I had very urgent call so I take the call during conversation on the mobile phone I forget my bag in the car.

The bag is black in colour and big in size just similar to school bags and also it is gucci brand bag which I received from my father on my 18th birthday so this bag is really precious for me. If I more describe about it, my bag has four zips and some stickers on the front and also pendent of my name Rashmeet in silver colour.

I genuinely request you to please help to find out my bag as soon as possible because there are important documents in my bag which I really want.

Your Sincerely

Rashmeet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all three bullet points: explaining how the bag was lost, describing the bag, and requesting assistance. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a company manager. The ideas are relevant, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. However, the development of ideas is slightly repetitive in the first two paragraphs, and the narrative flow could be more concise. Despite this, the task requirements are fully met, and the reader is left with a clear understanding of the situation and the specific details needed to locate the lost item.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized into distinct paragraphs, each serving a clear purpose. There is a clear progression of ideas from the initial explanation to the description and finally the request for help. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic and occasionally repetitive (e.g., 'and also', 'then'). The transition between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing could be smoother. While the overall structure is coherent and easy to follow, more sophisticated linking words and varied sentence transitions would be required to reach a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey the necessary information clearly. There are some attempts at more specific vocabulary, such as 'vividly remember' and 'precious', which are used correctly. However, there are instances of awkward word choices and minor errors, such as 'Vansh dealing' and 'pendent' (pendant). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. The repetition of simple descriptors like 'big' and 'black' suggests a need for a wider range of descriptive adjectives.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding verb tenses (e.g., 'I take my bag' instead of 'I took') and sentence construction (e.g., 'I am writing to request you yesterday I booked...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences that lack appropriate conjunctions or full stops. These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Greater attention to subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage is recommended.
