Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points: explaining the loss, describing the bag, and requesting assistance. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it occasionally slips into informal phrasing (e.g., 'my boyfriend'). The ideas are relevant, but the development is somewhat basic. For instance, the description of the bag is functional but lacks detail that would truly help a manager identify it, such as specific features or contents. To reach a higher band, you should provide more precise information, such as the time of the ride, the taxi number, or the exact route taken, which would make the request more effective and realistic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the narrative. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'Actually' to connect ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and sentence structure. For example, the transition between the loss of the bag and the description is a bit abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, but some sentences feel disconnected. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is sufficient for the task but remains quite simple. You rely on basic descriptors like 'very big' and 'black colour'. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'I down from the taxi' instead of 'I got out of the taxi' and 'emotionally attach of it' instead of 'emotionally attached to it'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives and idiomatic expressions related to lost property, such as 'misplaced', 'distinctive', or 'valuable'. Expanding your range of vocabulary will help you convey your message with greater precision and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include incorrect verb tenses ('when I was sit' instead of 'when I was sitting'), missing articles, and preposition errors ('I am writing a letter you' instead of 'I am writing a letter to you'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main point, they are frequent enough to limit the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
