Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Manager,
I hope you are doing well. My name is Manpreet kaur and am writing this letter to express my concern about my cabin bag which I left in the taxi yesterday.
To be honest, I always remain too attentive regarding my essentials, However the last night, I had tremendous pressure by my workplace work as it was closing day. Then, I took a cab from your company and kept all my stuff along with the carry bag. Later, I realized that I forgot my bag in the taxi.
Here is the description of the bag, It is in dark blue color with a little stain on the handle and also has a small lock in black color. I kindly request you to help me to find my bag as my all important documents are inside which hold great value for my residency.
I am leaving my contact details here and if you get any information, please let me know at your convenience.
Thanks and Regards.
Manpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: explaining the loss, describing the bag, and requesting assistance. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a company manager. The purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning, and the ideas are developed sufficiently to meet the task requirements. The inclusion of personal details like the importance of the documents adds relevant context to the request, making the letter persuasive and well-structured for a General Training Task 1 response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. The progression of ideas is smooth, moving from the introduction to the explanation, description, and finally the call to action. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Then', and 'Later' are used to link sentences, although some transitions could be more sophisticated. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure is easy to follow, ensuring the reader understands the sequence of events and the specific request being made.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. You use some functional phrases like 'express my concern' and 'at your convenience'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'tremendous pressure by my workplace work' and 'kept all my stuff along with the carry bag'. These do not impede communication, but they do limit the range of vocabulary. To reach a higher band, try to use more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'am writing' (missing subject 'I'), 'the last night' (unnecessary article), and 'my all important documents' (incorrect word order). Punctuation is generally functional, though some comma splices occur, such as 'Here is the description of the bag, It is...'. Despite these errors, the grammar does not prevent the reader from understanding the message, and the sentence variety is sufficient for this task type.
