Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: explaining how the bag was lost, describing the bag, and requesting assistance. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the bag is slightly confusing, particularly the mention of 'written to the side of the bag in aq ta', which is unclear. To improve, ensure that all details provided are coherent and fully explained so the reader can easily follow your narrative and identify the item.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction and body paragraphs. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Yesterday evening' and 'When I arrived' to sequence events. However, the transition between ideas is sometimes mechanical, and there are issues with paragraphing, as the final paragraph is incomplete and lacks a proper closing. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus, ending with a formal sign-off.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'assistance', 'accidentally', and 'belongings'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'bagpack' (backpack), 'hiurry' (hurry), and 'aq ta' (which is unclear). These errors occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on the correct spelling of common nouns and ensure that your vocabulary is precise. Expanding your range to include more specific descriptive adjectives for the bag would also help improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. These include inconsistent capitalization (e.g., 'i' instead of 'I'), missing articles (e.g., 'took taxi'), and punctuation issues. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall flow. To improve, pay close attention to basic subject-verb agreement, consistent capitalization of the pronoun 'I', and the correct use of articles before nouns.
