Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explained the circumstances of losing the bag, provided a detailed description of the item, and included a polite request for assistance. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a company manager. To improve, you could expand slightly on the impact of the loss or provide more specific details about the journey to ensure the manager has all necessary information to assist you effectively. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the task. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the incident to the description and finally the request. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Hence' and 'so' to link ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that transitions between sentences are smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately, which helps the reader follow the narrative of the event.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'belongings' and 'appreciate'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'skin color' (should be 'beige' or 'tan') and 'hanging with it's handle' (should be 'hanging from its handle'). Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'blsck' instead of 'black'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise descriptive adjectives and ensuring correct spelling and word usage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including punctuation issues ('it's' used for possessive 'its'), subject-verb agreement ('it has has'), and capitalization errors ('At', 'Was'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the overall accuracy. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammar rules, particularly the difference between contractions and possessive pronouns, and proofread for minor slips in capitalization and punctuation.
