Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: explaining how the bag was lost, describing the bag, and requesting assistance. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the description of the bag is restricted to its color and contents, lacking details like size, brand, or distinguishing features that would help the manager identify it. While the purpose is clear, the response would benefit from more specific information regarding the taxi journey, such as the time of day or the route taken, to better assist the manager in locating the item.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is coherent and follows a logical progression from the incident to the request for help. However, the paragraphing is non-existent, as the entire response is written as a single block of text. This makes the letter feel slightly cluttered. While there are some cohesive devices used, such as 'Unfortunately' and 'If you need', the transitions between sentences are sometimes mechanical. To improve, you should organize your ideas into distinct paragraphs: one for the incident, one for the description, and one for the call to action. This would significantly improve the overall structure and readability of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'personal belongings' and 'cooperate'. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'get out from this situation' (which should be 'resolve this situation') and 'look into this latter' (which should be 'look into this matter'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to lost property and formal business correspondence to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as tense inconsistencies ('I forget' instead of 'I forgot'), article usage ('on phone' instead of 'on the phone'), and prepositional errors ('about to 25 to 30 minutes'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent past tense usage when describing the incident would help improve your accuracy. You should also pay closer attention to punctuation, particularly with capitalization and sentence boundaries.
