Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. The student explains how the bag was lost by stating, "I forgot my bag in the taxi owned by your company yesterday... I was sleeping on that time." The bag is described adequately, mentioning its dark red color, the Ardene brand, and contents such as a wallet, ID, and passport photo. Furthermore, the writer asks the manager for help by stating, "I am requesting you to please search my bag and contact me." The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, despite minor opening salutation issues ("Respected Sir"). All parts are sufficiently addressed, earning a Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement and logical progression. Ideas are grouped reasonably, starting with the incident, moving to the description of the bag, and ending with the driver details and a call to action. However, paragraphing is somewhat weak; the text lacks clear separation between paragraphs, appearing largely as a single block or poorly spaced sections. Cohesive devices are occasionally mechanical or misused, such as "If I talk about the structure of the bag," which is a bit unnatural. Referencing is generally clear, but overall paragraph structure issues limit this criterion to a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully communicating details about the bag and the driver. Less common vocabulary items are attempted, such as "figure it out" and "provide you a piece of information." However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as saying "structure of the bag" instead of "appearance" or "design." Additionally, spelling errors like "tatoo" instead of "tattoo" and phrasing issues like "I was not feel well" indicate limitations in lexical control, placing this performance at a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and relative clauses (e.g., "I know its not easy to figure it out which taxi it was, but I can provide you..."). However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text. Examples include tense and auxiliary verb mistakes ("I was not feel well", "I was sleeping on that time", "he wore a black goggles" instead of "he wore black goggles"), missing apostrophes ("its" instead of "it's"), and run-on sentences with comma splices. While communication is not impeded, these persistent errors prevent the score from reaching a Band 6.5.
