Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I hope you are doing well, i want to address something about what happened with me on yesterday while I was on the way towards my house in one of your taxi. I was on a call through out the ride, and eventually i didn't realized that I forgot my black bag in the taxi.

The bag had a couple of stuff, including my Laptop, Wallet, Mobile charger, and Some of my important work documents, The bag was having 6 pockets and luckily it was locked with a passcode.

This is a request to the company and the manager that get me the bag as soon as possible because i have a client meeting in the next couple of days. Apart from that, I do have have some information about the car like, it was black in colour, with white interior in it with leather seats. It was around 8PM in the evening when I booked the car. I will be waiting for the positive reply.

Thank you,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response covers all three bullet points from the prompt effectively. You explained how the bag was lost by mentioning your phone call during the taxi ride, described the bag with details about its color, pockets, and passcode lock, and asked the manager for help finding it while providing relevant details about the vehicle and time of travel. The tone is semi-formal and appropriate for a letter of complaint/inquiry to a company manager. Ideas are relevant and fully sufficient for the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement and is broken down into logical paragraphs addressing the introduction, the description of the bag, and the call to action/vehicle details. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'Apart from that' could be more smoothly integrated, and punctuation errors like comma splices ('documents, The bag was having') disrupt the flow slightly. Paragraphing is present and helps structure the letter adequately.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'passcode', 'client meeting', and 'interior'. However, there are some noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as writing 'a couple of stuff' instead of 'a couple of things' or 'several items', and using 'the bag was having' rather than 'the bag had'. Spelling is generally accurate, but minor lexical infelicities prevent a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. There are, however, several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text. Examples include lowercase letters at the start of clauses ('i want to address', 'i didn't realized'), incorrect tense/aspect usage ('was on a call through out the ride', 'get me the bag' instead of 'help me find/get'), and comma splices linking independent clauses. These errors occasionally distract the reader, though they do not impede overall communication.
