Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, earning a solid score. You have explained how you lost the bag by mentioning your urgent meeting and rushing, described the bag as small, black leather with steel handles and three pockets, and asked the manager for help. However, some areas show the characteristics of a midway band where ideas are slightly under-developed. For instance, the explanation of how you lost the bag jumps straight into the details without much extension, and the description of the contents, while relevant, could be expanded further to fully explore the task. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout, and the tone is appropriate for a formal communication with a taxi manager, successfully achieving the communicative goal.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical letter structure with an appropriate opening and closing. You have organized the text into distinct paragraphs for the introduction, the explanation of the loss, the description of the bag and its contents, and the request for help. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For example, using 'Actually' twice in quick succession ('Actually, I had to attend...' and 'Actually, It contains...') disrupts the natural flow of ideas. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the transition between sentences in the third paragraph. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points, but the linking between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother to achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your message about the lost bag. There are successful attempts to use less common vocabulary items and relevant phrases, such as 'urgent meeting', 'crucial documents', and 'driving license'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations that reflect a restricted range. For instance, writing 'properly concentration' instead of 'properly concentrate' and 'receive my bag' instead of 'collect my bag' show issues with word form and collocation. Furthermore, spelling and mechanical slips like 'sothat', 'withour', and 'lookforword' indicate that precision is inconsistent, keeping the lexical score at the current level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing to inform you about my bag which I left in your taxi yesterday.' There is good control over basic sentence structures, and punctuation is generally acceptable. However, there are several grammar errors sprinkled throughout the text. For example, 'I was getting late' is an awkward phrasing for running out of time, 'Steel handles are also attached with it' misuses the preposition, and 'I request to you' contains an unnecessary preposition. While these errors do not impede communication, they do occur with enough frequency to prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. A greater variety of error-free complex sentences and more precise grammatical patterns are needed to progress further.
