Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing this letter to inform you that i forgot to take my bag in one of the taxies from your company last night and all my business reports and personal cards were in that bag.
Actually, I was late from my business meeting yesterday and booked a taxi that belongs to your company. Thus, I left my bag on the back seat of the taxi because i was in hurry and forgot to take when i was dropped at 11:00pm.
My bag is black in colour and a logo of Addidas brand is printed on it. Moreover, It is like a laptop bag in which my finanical reports of business and my personal banking cards as well as driving license are involved.
I am requesting you to contact your employee who took my ride last night. My name is Jaspreet and phone number is [redacted phone]. For other information you can contact me anytime. I will be very thankful if you can send my bag via DHL and i appreciate to pay all the charges to do this.
Hoping to hear a positive response from your side.
Yours Sincerely,
Raj

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You successfully address all parts of the task by explaining how the bag was lost, describing its appearance and contents, and asking the manager for assistance. Your purpose is clear from the beginning and maintained throughout the letter. The ideas are generally well-supported, such as detailing the specific contents like business reports and banking cards. However, some areas could be extended further to achieve a higher score. For instance, mentioning the exact route or taxi number would have made the explanation more complete and realistic. Overall, you cover all bullet points adequately, ensuring the reader understands the situation clearly and knows how to contact you.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter shows a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You make effective use of paragraphing, with each paragraph serving a distinct function—from introducing the issue to detailing the bag and requesting help. You also use cohesive devices reasonably well, such as 'Actually', 'Moreover', and 'Thus', to link your ideas together. While cohesion is mostly clear, a few transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and referencing could be smoother in places. To push towards a higher band, you could vary your cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that every sentence flows seamlessly into the next without relying on standard connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and specific terms such as 'financial reports', 'driving license', and 'business meeting'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and spelling, such as writing 'taxies' instead of 'taxis', 'Addidas' instead of 'Adidas', 'finanical' instead of 'financial', and the awkward collocation 'appreciate to pay' instead of 'willing to pay'. These minor lexical and spelling errors do not impede communication, but they prevent you from reaching a higher band. Focusing on precise word forms, correct spelling, and natural collocations will help improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses using 'because' and 'that'. There is good control of basic structures, and your meaning is always clear. However, you make some grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text. Examples include the lowercase 'i', the lowercase sign-off name mismatch ('Raj' versus 'Jaspreet' in the body), and minor prepositional or structural awkwardness like 'forgot to take when i was dropped'. These errors are occasional rather than frequent and rarely impede communication, allowing you to maintain a steady level. To improve, ensure careful proofreading of capitalization, pronouns, and agreement.
