Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to inquire about my belongings which I left in one of your taxi last night on October 06, 2026.
Last night around 9:30 pm when I was coming back from my work. I booked a taxi from your company from Metrotown station to my home. I was too tired and slept in taxi while I reached at my destination, I forgot to carry my bag.
It is a office bag and has laptop inside it. The color of the bag is black and it has logo of my company which is Ekam enterprises. Another specification of my bag is that it has a special key chain of Nike.
I am requesting you to find my bag as, it is very important for me. It has my laptop inside which is very important for me because it has confidential information about my new clients which I have not stored anywhere. Also, it has some of my important documents which are required for my upcoming projects.
I would be very thankful for your assistance and hope to hear from you soon.
Yours Sincerely,
Ekonkar Singh.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The letter covers all three required points clearly: you explain that you fell asleep in the taxi and left the bag behind, describe it as a black office bag with a company logo and Nike key chain, and ask the manager to help locate it. The details about the laptop, confidential client information, and project documents also explain why its return matters, so the request is well supported. The purpose and polite tone are clear throughout. To make the response even more complete, you could provide a practical way for the company to identify the journey, such as a booking reference, pickup details, or your contact information, and state what action you would like the manager to take if the bag is found.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a sensible sequence: the opening states the purpose, the next paragraph explains the journey, and the following paragraphs describe the bag and explain the urgency of recovering it. This makes the letter easy to follow, and the closing is appropriate. Paragraphing is effective, while linking phrases such as “Also” and “because” help connect supporting details. Some connections are less smooth: “Last night around 9:30 pm when I was coming back from my work” is a fragment, and the repeated use of “important” makes the final explanation feel less varied. A more direct transition into the request and clearer links between the journey details would make the progression more polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the situation and identify the item, including “confidential information,” “upcoming projects,” and “special key chain.” These choices show some range beyond basic description, and the meaning remains clear. However, several phrases are imprecise or unnatural for a formal letter: “inquire about my belongings” is less specific than “report a lost bag,” while “one of your taxi” and “a office bag” show inaccurate word forms or collocations. “Specification” is also not the natural term for a distinguishing feature. To strengthen your range, choose more precise lost-property language and vary repeated words such as “important”; the response already communicates effectively, but these refinements would make it more natural and flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, for example, “I would be very thankful for your assistance and hope to hear from you soon.” Most ideas are understandable, and the errors rarely prevent the reader from following the message. Some grammatical problems remain, however. “Last night around 9:30 pm when I was coming back from my work” is an incomplete sentence, and “I slept in taxi while I reached at my destination” has problems with articles, tense, and sentence construction. There are also agreement and article errors in “one of your taxi” and “It is a office bag.” Work on complete clauses, past-tense sequencing, and article use, while continuing to attempt varied sentence forms.
