Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to bring your attention to an urgent issue regarding losing my bag in one your taxi last night. As I was traveling from Lauzon RD to Wiles Dr yesterday with a driver named Mark, I was carrying a leopard printed Coach pouch with myself which I forgot in the taxi.
The pouch had a pink pokemon keychain attached to right-side chain and a minute tear in the back of it. However, there is capital C letter token attached in front of the bag. Moreover, there are numerous items in the bag including my nivea lipgloss, a mini purse with Mehak engraved on it as well as a polaroid picture of myself in a white dress. Even though I can't recall where exactly I left it but as per my memory, it was kept right in between the back seats of the car.
I would be highly grateful if you can provide me with some solution in retrieving my pouch as it is very dear to me.You can reach out to me on my phone number [redacted phone] .
I will be waiting to hear back from you as soon as possible.
Your faithfully,
Mehakdeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requirements: it explains that the pouch was left during a taxi journey, gives several identifying details, and asks the manager to help retrieve it. The description is particularly useful, mentioning the leopard print, pink Pokémon keychain, tear, front token, and contents. The request is clear, and providing a phone number gives the company a practical way to respond. These details extend and support the main purpose. To make the response more fully developed, state more directly that you are asking the company to check with the driver or inspect the taxi, rather than asking for “some solution.” The explanation of how the bag was lost could also be clearer about when you noticed it was missing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: it introduces the problem, describes the pouch and its contents, then makes a request and closes politely. Paragraphing supports these stages, and linking expressions such as “However,” “Moreover,” and “Even though” help connect details. The sequence is generally easy to follow, though some transitions feel mechanical or do not express the relationship precisely. For example, “However” introduces another identifying feature rather than a contrast, while “Moreover” adds a list of contents. The sentence beginning “Even though” is also awkwardly connected to “but.” Use simpler, more precise links and make the request paragraph a little more explicit about the action you want the company to take.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including specific descriptive terms such as “leopard printed,” “keychain,” “engraved,” and “retrieving.” These details make the item identifiable, and the formal opening and closing suit a letter to a company. There are also attempts at less common or formal phrasing, such as “bring your attention” and “highly grateful,” but some combinations are not natural in this context. “With myself” and “some solution in retrieving” are also imprecise, and “minute tear” may not communicate the intended small tear as naturally as “small tear.” Check spelling and capitalisation in names such as “Pokémon” and “Nivea.” More accurate collocations would make the vocabulary sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the time clause “As I was traveling…” and the longer sentence describing the pouch’s contents. Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. In “one your taxi,” the possessive determiner is missing; “attached to right-side chain” also needs an article or possessive determiner. The construction “Even though I can't recall where exactly I left it but…” incorrectly combines two contrasting linkers, and “it was kept” is an awkward passive form for describing where you left the pouch. There are also punctuation and spacing issues, such as the missing space after “me.” and the space before the final full stop in the phone-number sentence. Review articles, clause connections, and sentence punctuation.
