Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am jerry and I am from berlin. I am writing this letter to tell you that yesterday I ride in one of your taxi. I had left mybag in your taxi. Actually, I was to busy in my office work when I leave your taxi in front of the office my bag left there .
Furthermore, I am describing my bag a little. My bag is of brown colour with the brand logo in front of bag that is COACH. It is not too big the bag is in the medium size. There is only 4 zips but in the bag there are some of the important documents that are used in any of the sector.
Moreover, I would like to request you to find it because in that bag there are some important documents that I need. I am sure that I left my bag in your taxi. I humbly request you to find it. Looking forward for your reply as soon as possible.
Yours Sincerly,
Jerry

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three required points: you explain that the bag was left in the taxi, describe its brown colour, Coach logo, medium size and zips, and ask the manager to help locate it. The purpose is clear and the details about important documents explain why its return matters. However, the account of how it was lost is not fully clear: “I was to busy in my office work when I leave your taxi” does not explain precisely how the bag was left behind. The description also gives limited identifying detail beyond its colour and brand. To strengthen the letter, clarify the circumstances of the journey and add a distinctive feature or contents that could help staff identify the bag.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a recognisable progression from explaining the problem, to describing the bag, to requesting assistance. Paragraph breaks help separate these purposes, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “Moreover” make the sequence visible. The organisation is coherent overall, but some connections feel mechanical, and the repeated request to find the bag (“I would like to request you to find it” and “I humbly request you to find it”) could be combined. The sentence about leaving the taxi and the bag is difficult to follow, which weakens the progression between ideas. Use clearer sequencing and refer back to the bag consistently; for example, explain the journey and moment of discovery before moving to its identifying features.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main information, including “brown colour,” “medium size,” “brand logo” and “important documents.” The brand name and physical details are relevant to the task. However, the range is limited and several phrases are unnatural or imprecise, such as “I am describing my bag a little,” “in any of the sector,” and “find it.” Spelling and spacing also need attention in “mybag” and “Sincerly.” These choices do not prevent the reader from understanding the main purpose, but they make the letter less natural and sometimes unclear. Aim for precise, conventional phrases such as “I would like to describe the bag” and “locate the bag,” and check spelling before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response includes simple sentences and some attempts to join ideas, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Errors include “yesterday I ride” instead of a past-tense form, “one of your taxi” instead of a plural noun, and “I was to busy” where the intended construction is “too busy.” The sentence “when I leave your taxi in front of the office my bag left there” has problems with tense, clause structure and the relationship between the subject and verb. There are also errors in “There is only 4 zips.” These mistakes sometimes make the circumstances difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense narration and build longer sentences around one clear main clause, using punctuation to separate supporting details.
