Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter regarding the my bag that I lost yesterday in one of your taxi operator. I had booked taxi service of your company from Indra Gandhi International airport to my home in Noida yesterday evening somehow in a hurry while collecting a bag from car trunk I forgot to take the bag that I kept next to me.
My bag is brown in color and has 4 zipper. It is of medium size and has self structure all round. On the front side, T&H logo is there in green and red shade. Moreover, I have also written my name and contact number at the backside of the bag.
Actually, it contains my office and personal documents that are needed urgently. I am sharing the Taxi number and driver name so that you can reach out to him immediately. I will be very delightful for your help and prompt action.
I will wait for your response and collect the bag from your office location.
Yours sincerely,
Rahul Kumar

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three required points: it explains that the bag was left beside you while you were collecting another bag from the car trunk, describes its colour, size, zippers and identifying marks, and asks the manager to help by contacting the driver. The details about the documents and your willingness to collect the bag also make the request relevant. The purpose is clear throughout, and the formal opening and closing suit the situation. To make the response more fully developed, state the taxi number and driver’s name directly rather than saying you are sharing them without actually providing them. You could also make the request more explicit by asking the manager to check with the driver and let you know when the bag is found.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear, useful sequence: the circumstances of the loss, the bag’s appearance, and the request for assistance. Separate paragraphs help the reader locate each part of the message, while phrases such as “Moreover” and “Actually” connect details to the main purpose. The final sentence also gives a practical next step. Some linking is a little mechanical, and the first paragraph combines several details in one long sentence, making the account less easy to follow. Consider separating the journey information from the explanation of how the bag was left behind, and use a more direct transition into the request. This would make the progression smoother while preserving the letter’s clear overall organisation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for this practical letter, including specific descriptive terms such as “medium size,” “front side,” “logo,” and “personal documents.” These details make the bag identifiable, and the meaning remains clear despite some awkward choices. However, several expressions are not natural in this context: “taxi operator” would be better as “taxi,” “self structure all round” is unclear, and “I will be very delightful for your help” uses the wrong form and collocation. “Booked taxi service” is also less natural than “booked a taxi.” Aim for precise, conventional phrases rather than translating expressions directly; this would improve fluency and formality without requiring more elaborate vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the sequence of events can generally be understood. However, some grammatical errors remain, including “the my bag,” “I had booked taxi service,” and “I forgot to take the bag that I kept next to me.” The last clause is difficult to interpret because the relationship between the two bags is not clearly expressed. There are also issues with articles and number agreement in “has 4 zipper,” and the sentence beginning “I am sharing” does not clearly state what information is being supplied. Use shorter, carefully controlled sentences for the loss explanation, and check articles, plurals and clause structure. More accurate control of these patterns would make the message easier to read.
