Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing to inform you that last night i booked a taxi from your agency. The ride started from queens station and the drop off location was midland avenue. When I reached home I realised that my bag was not with me. I also tried to call the driver so many times, however, his phone number was not reachable.
I was sleepy last night maybe that is the reason I forgot to took my bag. It is a big black leather bag with a print of spiderman. It also has a keychain with my initials HS. I request you to please look into this and help me to find my bag. I have some realy important documents inside it. The details of the cab is as below:
Car - Black Toyoto Camry
Car's Number - DL1234XYZ
Driver's Name - Sidhu
Driver's Number - [redacted phone]
Please let me know if you need any details from my side. I am waiting for your response.
Thank you for your time and coorporation
Regards,
Himanshu

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter clearly addresses all three requirements: you explain that you left the bag after the taxi ride, describe it as a “big black leather bag” with a Spider-Man print and an initialled keychain, and ask the manager to help locate it. The cab and driver details, along with the note about important documents, make the request practical and relevant. The purpose remains clear throughout. To develop the response further, make the sequence of events and the request slightly more precise—for example, state explicitly that you noticed the bag was missing only after arriving home, and ask the company to contact the driver or check the vehicle. This would extend the relevant details more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear, sensible order: the journey and discovery, the bag’s description, the request, and identifying details. Paragraph breaks help distinguish the main points, and phrases such as “When I reached home” and “Please let me know” guide the reader. The list of vehicle and driver details is especially easy to scan. Some links are a little mechanical, however, and the transition from the description to the request could be smoother. The sentence “I was sleepy last night maybe that is the reason…” also interrupts the flow slightly. Grouping the journey details together and using a more direct transition into the request would make the progression more polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for this practical letter, including “drop off location,” “initials,” “documents,” and “cooperation,” and the bag is described with useful identifying details. The meaning is generally clear, though some choices are imprecise or informal: “look into this” is less specific than “investigate the matter,” while “so many times” could be expressed more naturally as “several times.” There are also spelling errors in “realy,” “Toyoto,” and “coorporation,” and “print of spiderman” would be clearer as “Spider-Man print.” Greater accuracy in spelling and more precise collocations would strengthen the vocabulary while keeping the tone appropriately formal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex sentences, and most of the message is easy to understand. You use time clauses effectively in “When I reached home” and a contrast clause in “however, his phone number was not reachable.” Some grammatical errors remain. In “I forgot to took my bag,” the verb after “forgot to” should be in its base form (“take”); “last night i booked” also needs a capital “I.” The sentence beginning “I was sleepy last night maybe…” needs clearer punctuation or a linking structure, such as “I was sleepy last night, which may be why I forgot to take my bag.” More consistent control of verb forms and sentence punctuation would improve accuracy.
