Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir

Last night, I travelled through your company's taxi. The traval was smooth and comfertable. I really admire your company's services as well as the drivers behaviour towards customers. My drop off time was 22:30. After an hour, when I looked for the power bank i came to know it was in my bag. Then, i remembered i did not pick the bag when i left the taxi. I belive my bag is left in taxi.

I would like to infom you some essential information about my bag. Its in a beige colour. lenght is around 15 to 17cm and the width is 20cm. The bag is made of imported leather. There are my important documents in the bag like I'd card and passport along with some money.

I request you to please investigate with your rider. I can provide you all taxi and rider details upon asking. I really need my bag, I have contacted with rider, he did not update me yet. I want you to pay closely attention to this matter and update me.

Regards

Madiha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three requested points: you explain that you forgot the bag when leaving the taxi, describe its beige colour, approximate dimensions, leather material and contents, and ask the manager to investigate and update you. These details make the purpose clear and relevant. The account of how the bag was lost is understandable, though the sequence could be explained more precisely—for example, clarify that you noticed the missing power bank and then realised it was still inside the bag left in the taxi. The request is also somewhat general: asking the company to check its lost-property records and contact the driver would make the action you want clearer. The polite opening and closing suit a formal letter; fuller development of these points would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: the first paragraph explains the journey and loss, the second describes the bag, and the final paragraph requests help. This makes the main information easy to locate. Some links between ideas are less clear, particularly “After an hour, when I looked for the power bank i came to know it was in my bag,” followed by the realisation that the bag was left behind. The reader can infer the intended sequence, but a clearer transition would improve progression. The final paragraph also moves from asking the company to investigate to mentioning your contact with the driver and requesting an update; these points could be ordered more smoothly. Paragraphing is appropriate, though more precise referencing and linking would make cohesion less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the situation and provide useful descriptive detail, including “beige,” “imported leather,” “important documents,” and “investigate.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision and make the language less natural, such as “traval,” “comfertable,” “infom,” and “belive.” Some collocations are also awkward: “travelled through your company's taxi,” “drivers behaviour,” and “pay closely attention” do not express the intended meaning naturally. The range is adequate for this familiar task, but there is limited flexibility beyond basic descriptions and requests. Check spelling carefully and learn common formal-letter phrases, such as “travelled in one of your taxis” and “pay close attention,” to make your vocabulary more accurate and appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of short statements and longer sentences, and the main message remains understandable. There are some grammatical errors in sentence structure, articles, and punctuation. For example, “Its in a beige colour” needs a clearer construction such as “It is beige,” while “lenght is around 15 to 17cm” lacks a subject and article. In “I have contacted with rider,” the verb pattern and article are incorrect; write “I have contacted the driver.” Capitalisation of “I” is also inconsistent, and the opening “Dear Sir” does not follow the supplied greeting. Most sentences are simple, with few controlled complex structures. Practise combining details accurately using clauses such as “After I got home, I realised that I had left my bag in the taxi.”
