Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear sir,

I hope you are doing well and your health is in great condition. My name is Patel and I am writing this letter regarding to inform you about my backpack bag which I accidentally left in your taxi.

Actually, yesterday, I took a taxi ride with number plate DCMC477 from your company. while seating in a taxi I was on important call and when I reached my home I forgot to bring my backpack bag.

It is a medium size bag and has black color with company name TRUST. There are very important documents inside the bag which I will have to give at my company next week.

Therefor, I am requesting you to help me out with this. I am leaving near around your company. So, if you cloud courier my bag to my home address, would be a great help.

Hope, you will understand my situation and help me out.

sincerely,

Ketul patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three required points: you explain that you forgot the bag after a taxi ride while taking an important call, describe it as medium-sized, black, and marked “TRUST,” and ask the manager to arrange its return. The taxi’s number plate and the documents inside add useful context, and the request is clear. This fits a response that covers the task and gives relevant supporting detail. To make the information more fully developed, specify when and where the taxi picked you up or dropped you off, and provide a clear way for the company to contact you or deliver the bag. The request to courier it is understandable, but “I am leaving near around your company” does not clearly establish your location.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information follows a sensible order: you introduce the purpose, explain the loss, describe the bag, and make your request. Linking expressions such as “Actually,” “Therefor,” and “So” help show the relationship between ideas, and the letter has a recognisable opening and closing. However, the paragraphing is limited, and some transitions feel mechanical or do not connect the ideas precisely. For example, “Therefor” introduces the request, while “So” repeats the link immediately afterward. The sentence about living near the company is also difficult to follow. Separate the explanation, description, and request into clear paragraphs, and use fewer, more precise transitions to make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the situation, including “number plate,” “important documents,” “courier,” and “accidentally left.” However, several noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems limit precision: “backpack bag” is redundant, “regarding to inform” is unnatural, and “I am leaving near around your company” does not express your intended meaning clearly. “Therefor” and “cloud” also appear to be misspellings of “therefore” and “could.” These choices may make the reader pause, even though the main message remains understandable. Aim for concise, natural phrases such as “I am writing to report that I left my backpack in your taxi” and “I live near your office.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The letter includes both simple statements and longer sentences, such as the explanation that you were on a call when you arrived home, so there is some variety in structure. The main events are generally understandable, but errors in sentence construction and punctuation recur. For example, “while seating in a taxi I was on important call” has an incorrect verb form and is missing an article; “when I reached my home I forgot to bring” also needs clearer punctuation and phrasing. The request, “if you cloud courier my bag to my home address, would be a great help,” lacks a complete main clause. Practise forming complete conditional requests and check articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries.
