Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sit or Madam,
I am writing to request to find my bag that I left in the taxi of your company. Yesterday on 29th of October, I went home from my workplace using the taxi of your company, as I was extremely exhaused I fall asleep and when the driver woke me up after reaching at the destinantion I forgot to carry my bag while leaving.
My bag is a black backpack with golden zippers and from the brand mountain warehouse. It is having a keychain also hanging to it, it a small crochet doll keychain and it is having my sipper in it in one of its side pocket.
i will really appreciate it if you could help me find my bag as it is having some important documents and my badges related to my office which are quite important to me. I have attached all the details regarding my ride in your tax with this mail. Looking forward for your revert.
Thank you

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requirements clearly: you explain that you fell asleep and left the bag when getting out, describe its colour, brand, zippers, keychain and contents, and ask the manager to help locate it. Mentioning the important office documents and badges also explains why its return matters. The ride details you say are attached could help the company investigate. To make the request more fully developed, include a direct practical step, such as asking the manager to contact the driver or check the vehicle, and provide a way to reach you. The purpose and relevant details are clear throughout, although the closing request could be more specific.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a sensible order: the reason for writing and circumstances of the loss come first, followed by the bag’s description and then the request for assistance. This progression makes the letter easy to follow, and the final reference to ride details supports the request. However, the body is presented as one continuous block, so separating the loss, description and request into distinct paragraphs would make the organisation clearer. Some links between details are also awkward, particularly the repeated “it is having” in the description. A more direct transition between the bag’s identifying features and the action you want the manager to take would improve cohesion further.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary to identify the bag and its contents, including “black backpack,” “golden zippers,” “crochet doll keychain” and “important documents.” These details give the manager useful identifying information. However, several noticeable word-choice and spelling problems reduce precision and naturalness: “request to find my bag,” “sipper,” “revert,” and “taxi of your company” are not appropriate or idiomatic in this context. “Exhaused” and “destinantion” are also misspelled. Aim for standard customer-service expressions and check spelling carefully; for example, “help me locate,” “water bottle,” and “reply” would communicate your meaning more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter attempts longer sentences to explain the sequence of events, and the main message remains understandable. However, errors in verb forms, sentence construction, articles and punctuation are frequent enough to affect fluency. For example, “I fall asleep” should use the past form, while “after reaching at the destinantion” has an incorrect grammatical pattern. The sentence beginning “Yesterday on 29th of October” also joins several events without clear punctuation, making it difficult to process. In the description, “It is having a keychain also hanging to it” is structurally awkward, and the lowercase “i” needs correction. Practise accurate past-tense narration and shorter, well-punctuated sentences before adding complex clauses.
