Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, as it is only 113 words long and ends abruptly mid-sentence. While you have attempted to address all three bullet points—explaining why you are no longer using the bike, describing it, and suggesting why your friend would like it—the development is insufficient due to the incomplete nature of the letter. To improve, you must ensure you fully expand on each point and provide a proper closing to the letter. The current length significantly limits your ability to develop your ideas, which is a key requirement for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter shows some attempt at logical organization, using basic cohesive devices like 'Therefore' and 'Additionally'. However, the progression of ideas is interrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is present but the structure is undermined by the sudden ending. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and that you use a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') to connect your ideas more fluidly. The lack of a concluding paragraph or sign-off also negatively impacts the overall coherence of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite basic and contains some inaccuracies, such as 'one year older' (instead of 'one year old') and 'black coloure' (spelling error). Phrases like 'remarkable price' are used, but the overall range is limited. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more descriptive adjectives and precise collocations related to selling items, such as 'well-maintained', 'pristine condition', or 'reasonable price'. Focusing on accurate spelling and more natural word choices will help improve your lexical range and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains several grammatical errors that impede clarity, such as 'which once is no longer use from the last two years' and 'I have extra evening online in the evening'. There is a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You struggle with verb tenses and preposition usage. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your sentence structures are complete. Proofreading for basic errors in tense and word order will help you achieve more error-free sentences, which is essential for higher band scores.
