Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Riya,

I hope you are doing well. I am excited to tell you a good news that I am getting a new car in two days. So, I have decided to resale my bicycle to you as I no longer use it now. I know that you're going university by walk so It would be helpful for you.

A bicycle is a mountain bike and it's 1 year old but still in excellent condition. one thing is it does make noise while riding although, it is very mild so you can ignore it. This bicycle is expensive because it has 11 gear which allow you to ride a bike smoothly swell as fast.

I really think that it would benefits you to reach your university in a quicker way. A bike allow you to earn money buy doing Uber Eats which you always opted to do for gathering your classes fees.

Let me know if you want it. I would delighted to show you a cycle whenever you are free.

Best Wishes,

krihsa

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why you are no longer using the bike (getting a car), described the bike (mountain bike, 1 year old, 11 gears), and provided a persuasive reason for your friend to take it (commuting to university and potential for Uber Eats work). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are developed with slightly more precision; for example, the mention of the bike's noise is a good detail, but ensure the overall flow remains focused on the benefits to the friend.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'so', 'although', and 'because' to link your ideas. However, the transition between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that pronouns (like 'it') clearly refer back to the intended noun. Paragraphing is present, which helps the reader follow your train of thought, though the structure could be slightly more refined to improve the flow between the description of the bike and the benefits.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You use relevant terms like 'mountain bike', 'excellent condition', and 'smoothly'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'resale' instead of 'sell', 'by walk' instead of 'on foot', and 'gathering your classes fees' instead of 'paying your tuition fees'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural collocations would help you achieve a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use complex sentences, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'a good news' (uncountable noun), 'going university' (missing preposition), '11 gear' (pluralization), and 'I would delighted' (missing verb). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles. Increasing your control over these basic structures will significantly enhance the accuracy of your writing.
