Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points: explaining why the bike is unused, describing the bicycle, and suggesting why the friend would like it. However, the response is 10 words under the 150-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the task achievement score. While the ideas are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped due to the brevity of the response. To improve, you should expand on the description of the bicycle and provide more specific reasons why your friend would benefit from it, ensuring you meet the minimum word count to fully develop your ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the reason for selling and the description of the bike is abrupt. There are also issues with punctuation and capitalization, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters (e.g., 'since i bought', 'the bicycle is'), which disrupts the flow. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring consistent paragraph structure would improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for a personal letter but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic descriptors like 'good' and 'comfortable'. There are also some errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'sb bilk' (likely meant 'bike') and 'bye new' (meant 'bought new'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more descriptive adjectives and precise collocations related to bicycles, such as 'well-maintained', 'ergonomic', or 'smooth-shifting'. Additionally, ensure you proofread for basic spelling errors that distract the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('my bike sitting in garage'), missing articles ('in garage', 'in there life'), and incorrect verb forms ('I hope your doing well'). Sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. The lack of proper capitalization at the beginning of sentences and for the pronoun 'I' is a recurring issue. Focusing on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and consistent punctuation will significantly improve your accuracy.
