Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sahil,
Hope to find you in good health and best of spirits. My purpose of writing is to present you an opportunity to buy my bicycle, as I am planning to sell it. Fortunately, I got a very great job, but I have to move to Chandigarh, that's why this cycle is no longer a need for me.
I like you to know that the bike is in very good condition and the tyres are even replaced by mechanic last month and it looks brand new now. Moreover, I got installed a bottle holder in the front as well for more convenience.
I would be grateful, if you can buy this bicycle from me, because it was my gifted to me by my grandfather, so it holds a special place in my heart. That's why, I do not want to sell it to any random stranger on website. Last month you told me that you were looking for a vehicle for travel to work and it is not far from your home, so the bicycle would be beneficial for your physical wellbeing because of your sedentary lifestyle.
Looking forward to see you soon.
Yours lovingly,
Simrat

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain the reason for selling the bike (moving to Chandigarh for a new job), provide a description of its condition and modifications, and offer a logical reason why your friend would benefit from it. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear from the outset. The ideas are well-developed and relevant, fulfilling the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'because', and 'that's why' to link ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, the transition between the description of the bike and the reason for selling it could be slightly more sophisticated. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the description, and the closing arguments, making the letter easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'best of spirits', 'special place in my heart', and 'sedentary lifestyle' are used effectively. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'I got installed a bottle holder' (should be 'I had a bottle holder installed') and 'it was my gifted to me' (should be 'it was gifted to me'). However, these errors do not impede communication, and the vocabulary is generally well-suited to the informal context of the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there are some grammatical slips, such as 'tyres are even replaced by mechanic' (should be 'were replaced by a mechanic') and 'Looking forward to see you' (should be 'Looking forward to seeing you'), the meaning remains clear throughout. The majority of your sentences are error-free, and you show a good grasp of basic punctuation and sentence construction. Increasing the variety of complex sentence structures would help elevate your score further.
