Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why you are selling the bike, describing it, and explaining why your friend would like it. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, while you list the accessories included, the description of the bicycle itself is quite brief. To improve, try to expand on your points by adding more descriptive detail or personal context. The letter is clear and the purpose is well-defined, meeting the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the reason for selling to the description and finally the offer. However, the paragraphing is non-existent, as the entire letter is written as one block of text. Using clear paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, body points, and closing would significantly improve the structure. Additionally, the use of cohesive devices is quite basic; you rely heavily on simple sentence structures. Incorporating a wider range of linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' would help the ideas flow more naturally between sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'features', 'accessories', and 'memories'. However, there are several inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'its looks newly' (should be 'it looks new') and 'I am looking $120' (should be 'I am asking for $120'). Some phrasing is also slightly unnatural, like 'big bucket at front' (perhaps 'front basket'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that adjectives and adverbs are used correctly to describe the bicycle's condition and features.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
Your writing shows a mix of simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('it have' instead of 'it has') and article usage ('bought new car' instead of 'bought a new car'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces appearing before commas and periods. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures like relative clauses.
