Student answer (Band 6.5)
Hello Gagan
Hope you are doing good, I wanted to let you know that I want to give my bicycle to you that I purchased last year now am thinking to upgrade it and it is no longer needed to me now. Because my sister said to me that she will going to gift me a new bicycle with some extra features in it.
My bicycle is black in colour and it has a good feature it is a electric bicycle and has a screen on it which showing the speed of the cycle and also it has another great feature that I liked the most it is to hang a phone on phone holder on it and on the side of the cycle near to the paddles it has a bottle holder. Overall, this bicycle has a great feature.
I think you need this bicycle because when last time we met you said that you missed a bus so many times and currently you are unable to buy a new vehicle for you. As I understand your feelings and I want to give this bicycle to you.
Best regards
Ravita

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: explaining why the bicycle is no longer used, describing the bicycle, and explaining why the friend would benefit from it. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the description of the bicycle is a bit repetitive, focusing heavily on the word 'feature' rather than providing a more vivid or varied description. While all parts of the task are covered, the response could be improved by expanding on the benefits of the bicycle to the friend in a more natural, conversational way.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into three clear paragraphs, each corresponding to a bullet point in the prompt. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between sentences often relies on simple conjunctions like 'and' or 'because'. There is a lack of varied linking words or phrases that would help the text flow more naturally. Paragraphing is used correctly, but the internal cohesion within the second paragraph is slightly repetitive due to the frequent use of the word 'feature'.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There is a noticeable repetition of words, particularly 'bicycle' and 'feature'. Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'no longer needed to me' instead of 'no longer needed by me' or 'I no longer need it'. While the student successfully communicates the intended meaning, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little attempt to use less common or more sophisticated lexical items. Improving word choice and avoiding repetitive structures would significantly enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'she will going to gift me' (should be 'she is going to gift me') and 'it is a electric bicycle' (should be 'an electric bicycle'). Additionally, there are issues with punctuation and sentence boundaries, such as the run-on sentence in the first paragraph. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to indicate a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms.
