Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt: explaining why the bicycle is no longer used, describing the bicycle, and suggesting why the friend would benefit from it. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the communication is clear from the outset. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the task requirements. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more specific details about the bicycle's condition or offer a more personal touch regarding the friendship to enhance the development of the ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. There is a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic and repetitive (e.g., 'For this reason', 'First'). The transition between the description of the bike and the suggestion for the friend is a bit abrupt. Improving the flow by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'it', 'this') is consistently clear would help achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to describe the bicycle and the situation clearly. There are some attempts at descriptive language, such as 'unique and beautiful' and 'modified'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'conveinent' (convenient) and 'tution' (tuition). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and relies on fairly common terms. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise adjectives and ensuring correct spelling of everyday words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'i have bought' (should be 'I bought' as it refers to a finished time in the past) and 'it also more comfortable' (missing the verb 'is'). Additionally, the pronoun 'I' is frequently written in lowercase, which is a punctuation error. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band score. Focusing on verb tense consistency and basic punctuation would be beneficial.
