Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Kirti,
Hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to you as I am selling my bicycle that I am not using anymore.
The reason to sell it ,I recently bought a car and this bicycle is just sitting in the garage. I'd rather like to see someone is good use of it.
The cycle is of blue and black colour mountain bike and it is in a very good condition as I always maintained it. Moreover, it has a very comfortable seat, good brakes and 21 gears, making it suitable for both city and rough trails. I also inserted a bottle and mobile handle on it that is also included in the price.
I think, it will be the perfect choice for you as I get to know that you are planning to buy a cycle to stay fit and saving money on transportation. As you are my friend , I'd not charge as much as someone else has to pay. and you can take the adavatage of this opportunity.
Let me know if you're interested. Hope to see you on weekend.
Yours Lovingly,
Aman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter covers all three bullet points effectively. You clearly explain why you are selling the bike (purchased a car), describe the bike's features (21 gears, color, condition), and provide a persuasive reason for your friend to buy it (fitness and cost-saving). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal register throughout. All parts of the task are addressed, and the ideas are well-developed, making the purpose of the letter clear from the beginning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'I also', which help the flow. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, such as 'The reason to sell it ,I recently bought a car'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the coherence further. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'sitting in the garage' and 'rough trails' are natural and appropriate. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'adavatage' (advantage) and 'I'd rather like to see someone is good use of it' (someone make good use of it). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision in collocation and proofreading for spelling accuracy.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I get to know that you are planning to buy a cycle to stay fit and saving money'. However, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'The cycle is of blue and black colour mountain bike' (missing article 'a') and 'I'd not charge as much as someone else has to pay' (tense inconsistency). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with comma placement and sentence boundaries. The majority of sentences are clear, but more attention to articles and verb forms is needed.
