Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Alex,

I hope you doing well. I am writing to express my happiness over a new bike that I purchased recently and wish to sell my old bicycle to you.

I bought my bicycle from online store on 5 July 2025, and it was delivered three days later. The bicycle is automatic, and is 2025 model with all the advanced features, such as online screen to record speed, and long lasting battery. Although, I still use my bicycle, I am thinking of selling it as I want to explore more time on my new bike and I do not use my bicycle relentlessly, it will get deteriorated with time.

As you always wished to have your own bicycle for a long time, I thought I would sell it to you. I would appreciate it if you could tell me your budget and time you would need to decide.

I hope to you meet you soon and take you on a ride to nearby aesthetic park on my bicycle.

Best wishes,

Ashu Berwal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You explained why you are selling the bike, described its features, and provided a clear reason why your friend would be interested. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a friendly and informal style throughout. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, ensuring the reader understands the purpose of your communication clearly. To improve further, ensure that the explanation for why you are selling the bike is logically consistent; you mentioned you still use it but then stated you want to sell it to avoid deterioration, which is a bit contradictory. Overall, the task requirements are fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your train of thought. You used some cohesive devices such as 'Although' and 'As you always wished', which help connect your ideas. However, the transition between the description of the bike and the reason for selling it could be smoother. Additionally, some sentences are slightly disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing is precise will help elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. You used some specific terms like 'advanced features' and 'aesthetic park', which are appropriate for the context. However, there are some word choice errors, such as 'explore more time' (which should be 'spend more time') and 'relentlessly' (which is used incorrectly here; 'frequently' or 'regularly' would be better). The phrase 'online screen' is also slightly unnatural; 'digital display' would be more precise. Focusing on collocations and more natural phrasing will help you achieve a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'I hope you doing well' is missing the auxiliary verb 'are', and 'from online store' requires an article ('an online store'). There is also a punctuation error with 'Although, I still use my bicycle', where the comma is unnecessary. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will improve your accuracy.
