Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Aman,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter just to inform you that I have a bicycle that I am not using anymore, and I want to give it to you, as you mentioned in our last meeting that you were looking for a bicycle. Luckily, I got a job in an IT-based company in Western Australia, so I have to move as soon as possible and have to join my New Job as an IT Sales Consultant. My father gifted me a bicycle on my 20th birthday. Basically, it is a battery-operated e-bicycle which is not only fast but also has a huge carrier to put our stuff. You know, I used to deliver food to support my education. This bicycle helps me a lot to generate my tuition fees. It is easy to maintain and is still fully functional.
As you are in the first year of your graduation, you can use this bicycle to explore the area around. Your father is a postman; unfortunately, it's hard for them to buy a brand new bicycle for you. Please accept my bicycle as a gift for you. I am leaving this coming Sunday, and before that I have arranged a small party on Friday. We will spend some quality time together, and you can take a bicycle from my home
I hope it will help you to get a handsome job that will ultimately support your studies.
Thank you,
Your well-wisher,
Sukhbir

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: explaining why the bicycle is no longer needed, describing its features, and justifying why the friend would benefit from it. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, being friendly and informal. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the personal context regarding the bicycle's history and the friend's situation. However, the mention of the friend's father's financial situation is slightly awkward and could be perceived as insensitive in a real-world context, though it does not detract from the task completion. The purpose of the letter is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Ideas flow reasonably well from one to the next. Paragraphing is used, though the transition between the description of the bike and the personal comments about the friend's family could be smoother. Cohesive devices such as 'Luckily', 'As you are', and 'In addition' (implied) are used, though some connections feel slightly mechanical. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the letter maintains a consistent focus on the topic throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient for the task and allows for clear communication. You use some good descriptive phrases like 'battery-operated e-bicycle' and 'fully functional'. There are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'generate my tuition fees' (usually 'cover' or 'pay for') and 'take a bicycle' (should be 'take the bicycle'). While the range is adequate, it lacks the more sophisticated or idiomatic expressions that would push the score into the higher bands. The tone remains consistent and appropriate for the context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several error-free sentences, which is positive. However, there are some persistent minor errors, such as 'have to join my New Job' (unnecessary capitalization), 'helps me a lot to generate' (tense inconsistency), and 'take a bicycle' (missing article). Punctuation is generally accurate, though the final sentence is missing a closing period. These errors are non-systematic and do not impede the reader's understanding of the message, fitting the criteria for a band 6.5 or 7.0.
