Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Guri,
I hope you are doing fine. I am writing this letter to let you know that I no longer need my bicycle and I would like to sell it.
As you know, I recently bought a car and now I don't require my bicycle. I am selling it so, that it can be useful to someone in need.
Additionally, it's a pink color bike with excellent brakes. It has modern features as well such as music system and a digital watch with attached camera. It is a 2025 model. I am selling it for 2500$ but for you I can make it to 2000$.
In addition to this, I know you will love to buy it because during your last visit, you told me how amazing my bicycle is and how you wish to have one like this bicycle. It is in perfect size that will easily fit in your garage.
Looking forward from hearing from you.
Warm regards,
Arman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain why you are no longer using the bike (purchasing a car), describe the bicycle (pink, 2025 model, specific features), and explain why your friend would like it (previous interest and perfect size). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To improve, you could expand slightly on the description of the bicycle's features to make the letter more engaging, as the current description feels a bit like a list. Overall, the task requirements are fully met.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'In addition to this', and 'As you know' to link your ideas. While the progression is clear, the transition between the description of the bike and the price could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. The overall structure is easy to follow and supports the message effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'no longer need' and 'perfect size' are used correctly. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'make it to 2000$' instead of 'offer it to you for 2000$' and 'music system' which is slightly unnatural for a bicycle. The vocabulary is generally functional and appropriate for a semi-formal or informal letter, though it lacks the sophistication required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'it's a pink color bike' (should be 'it is a pink-colored bike') and 'Looking forward from hearing from you' (should be 'to hearing from you'). Additionally, the punctuation regarding the dollar sign placement ('2500$') is non-standard in English. While these errors are present, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the letter.
