Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Jyothi,

I hope this letter find you well.

I have a plan to sell my lady bird bicycle as I am no longer going to use it. I vividly remember that, you were interested in it when we met last time at my place and I am ready to sell that with you if you have the same plan.

I bought an electric scooter last week and I don't think , I really need to keep this any longer. I have not put any sale ad for this as i remember you. Even though you know how it looks like, I want to give some additional details of this. I bought this two years ago and this has no repairs or any issues so far as this is well maintained. This also comes with a manufacturer warranty of five years and if you would face any trouble in future you can get it replaced .

I don't have any one in my buyer list as of now ,but you. I know you would take care of it even better than me .That is why, I decided to give that with you.

Let me know if you are ready to procced and we will discuss about the price later.

Yours sincerely,

Jeethu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points: the reason for selling, a description of the bicycle, and why the friend would like it. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a personal and friendly register throughout. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the explanation regarding the electric scooter and the bicycle's maintenance history. The response is fully relevant to the prompt and maintains a consistent focus on the task requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow the narrative easily. Cohesive devices such as 'Even though', 'That is why', and 'as of now' are used effectively to link ideas. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow could be improved with more varied cohesive markers. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task, though it lacks a wide range of sophisticated or less common items. Phrases like 'well maintained' and 'manufacturer warranty' are accurate. There are some minor awkward phrasings, such as 'ready to sell that with you' (should be 'to you') and 'procced' (spelling error). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message clearly, it does not demonstrate the flexibility or precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I hope this letter find you well' (should be 'finds'), 'I don't think , I really need' (incorrect comma placement), and 'you would face any trouble' (should be 'if you face'). Despite these errors, the student demonstrates a good grasp of sentence construction, and the errors do not impede communication. More consistent control over punctuation and verb agreement would improve the score.
