Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Ricky!
I hope you are doing splendidly! Let me tell you that I have just purchased a new motorbike of a renowned company, Splender. You know why I bought it? Actually, I got a new job recently; therefore, I had to commute regularly to the location of this job, which is too far. Anyway, the bicycle I just bought is no use for me since I bought this new Splender motorcycle.
The bicycle, I have, is of Hero, famous manufacturer of bicycles. Its body is of red colour while pedals are in silver, giving it a luxurious look. Also, It is already equipped with flashlight and day-night indicators, which are really essential in these days when we drive at night.
I know you might be wondering why I am telling you all this. The reason behind it is that you always asked me about a low-budget bike, and I think if you want to buy one, it will be a best choice for you. Not only does this Hero bicycle suit your budget, but it also has all those features that you always look for.
If you want me to send the photos or any details of it, just send me a message.
Yours friendly,
Abhishek.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained why you are no longer using the bicycle (due to the purchase of a motorbike for a long commute), provided a description of the bike (Hero brand, red with silver pedals, and safety features), and explained why your friend would be interested (budget-friendly and matches his requirements). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are well-developed and relevant to the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different topics. You use cohesive devices such as 'Actually', 'Also', and 'Not only does... but it also' to connect your ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be more natural; for instance, the opening sentence 'Let me tell you that...' is slightly abrupt. However, the overall progression of information is easy to follow and the letter remains coherent throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. You use specific terms like 'renowned', 'luxurious', and 'equipped with'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'bicycle I just bought is no use for me' (should be 'is of no use to me') and 'famous manufacturer of bicycles' (missing an article 'a'). Despite these minor inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly and effectively. You successfully attempt to use descriptive language to enhance the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the 'Not only... but also' construction. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'The bicycle, I have, is of Hero' (unnecessary commas and awkward phrasing) and 'in these days' (should be 'these days'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and article errors, such as 'red colour' (correct, but 'a' is missing before 'red') and 'flashlight' (should be 'a flashlight'). However, these errors are non-systematic and do not impede communication. The majority of your sentences are clear and understandable.
