Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Rahul Singh

I hope this letter finds you well and your family. I am writing this letter about my bicycle that I am no longer using. As you know last month I got my new job and this job is far away from my home. I am going to my job by bike and I have not enough time to use that bicycle.

Recently when I was thinking about to sale it then i remember that i also want a bicycle. I bought that last year and this bicycle still in good condition all breaks work very good and every part of this is original. I used to this bicycle very carefully. both exchange last month and these looks also new.

I am thinking about to give this to you because I know you going to work my bus and your work location is not far away like mine. If you go to your work by bicycle you do not need to wait for bus and you can need to worry about missing bus.

I hope you would love to have my bicycle. If you want this let me know by text, I will come to you home meet you and your family and will give this to you.

Thank you

Mohit

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task: explaining why you are no longer using the bike, describing its condition, and suggesting why your friend would benefit from it. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the description of the bicycle is quite basic, focusing only on the brakes and the fact that it is original. To reach a higher band, you could provide more descriptive detail about the bike's appearance or features. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader understands your intent throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your message. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'Recently' and 'If you go', but the transitions between sentences can feel a bit mechanical or abrupt. For instance, the jump from discussing your new job to selling the bike could be smoother. Additionally, there are some issues with referencing; in the second paragraph, you refer to 'that' and 'this' without clearly linking them to the bicycle in a way that flows naturally. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your message clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'condition', 'original', and 'location'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and minor errors, such as 'thinking about to sale it' (should be 'selling') and 'both exchange last month' (which is unclear). You rely on simple, repetitive vocabulary. To improve, try to incorporate more precise adjectives to describe the bicycle and more natural collocations for everyday activities, such as 'commuting' instead of 'going to my job'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as 'I have not enough time' (should be 'I do not have enough time'), 'these looks also new' (should be 'these look new'), and 'come to you home' (should be 'come to your home'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
