Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear simran,
I hope you are doing great. I am writing this letter to ask you about buying my bicycle that i recently purchased at a very good price.
As you know, i recently purchased a bicycle for making my commute easier to my workplace. I am moving to a new apartment near my job place and also other amenities like stores, restaurants, and others are on a footsteps from my house. I do not need my bicycle from now on and that is why i am selling it. It is in a good condition, black in color, and the main advantage is that it is electrical bike. So, it would make the commute easier and faster.
As you told me before that you are also looking for a bike for your college and work, so, it would be a great purchase for you. It has storage as well, so you can keep your belongings with you without doing anything extra.
I hope you will take this into consideration and let me know if you need anything else by my end.
Thank you
Best wishes
Sukh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why you are no longer using the bike, describing it, and explaining why your friend would like it. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. The ideas are relevant and clearly presented. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the description of the bike or the specific benefits for your friend to ensure the ideas are fully developed rather than just mentioned. Overall, the task is completed successfully.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the purpose of the letter to the explanation, description, and finally the recommendation. Paragraphing is used, though the body paragraphs could be more clearly separated to improve readability. You use some cohesive devices like 'As you know' and 'that is why', which help the flow. However, the transition between the description of the bike and the reason your friend would like it could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences feel slightly disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You use a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'amenities', 'commute', and 'take this into consideration' are appropriate. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'on a footsteps' (should be 'a few steps away') and 'by my end' (should be 'on my end'). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, it lacks the variety and precision of more advanced lexical items that would demonstrate a wider range of control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as the consistent failure to capitalize the personal pronoun 'I', and minor errors like 'electrical bike' (should be 'electric bike') and 'job place' (should be 'workplace'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic capitalization and article usage would significantly improve your accuracy.
