Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Harman
I hope everything is well with you. It feels like we haven't caught up in ages.
I was looking to sell my bicycle, then i thought about you that you could be the potential buyer. Actually I am not using my bicycle, as you know I have a hectic schedule, I am unable to use my bicycle. As a result, it just taking storage space but my mom needs more space to put some household things in garage. She suggest me to sell the cycle.
Although its old, it looks like new, and black in color which is your favorite color. I haven't drove it much. Moreover the reflective tapes i put on them for safety of cyclist if they got late to return home in night. I remember the day when i bought my bicycle you like it even more than me, because you like mountain bikes. You will be my first preference as you are my friend and i can see my bike and ride it at your home if i feel nostalgic about it. I have some good memories with my cycle. I would love to hear about you decision.
Best wishes
Karan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You explained why you are no longer using the bike (hectic schedule and lack of storage space), described the bike (black, mountain bike, reflective tapes), and provided a clear reason why your friend would like it (it is their favorite color and they enjoy mountain bikes). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that the development of ideas is slightly more balanced; for instance, the description of the bike could be expanded with more specific details about its condition or features.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Moreover', and 'As a result' to connect your ideas. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical. For example, the transition between the storage issue and the description of the bike could be smoother. Additionally, there are some minor issues with referencing, such as 'I thought about you that you could be the potential buyer', which is slightly awkward. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'hectic schedule', 'potential buyer', and 'nostalgic'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'I haven't drove it much' (should be 'driven') and 'She suggest me' (should be 'suggested'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more attention to verb forms and collocations. To improve, try to incorporate more descriptive adjectives and precise verbs to make your writing more engaging and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and subject-verb agreement. Examples include 'it just taking storage space' (should be 'it is just taking up'), 'if they got late' (should be 'if they are late'), and 'you like it even more' (should be 'you liked it'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some missing commas in complex sentences. Focusing on consistent tense usage and proofreading for basic grammatical slips will help you achieve a higher score.
