Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mohit,

I hope that you are well. I am writing to let you know about my bicycle which I want to sell.

Although I am found of riding a bicycle, I am not using it these days because I got a job in well-known company so my life has been busier than before. I do not get enough time to ride bicycle in the evening, and when I have a day off, I mostly prefer to use my car to travel due to convenience.

Initially, it is a nice and spotty bike which is of red color. Moreover, it comes with gear system technology, along with there is one suspension system at back side. There are two water bottle handles at the bottom side. Ultimately, all part of my bicycle are in good condition.

I believe that you would like this bicycle because the design of it is quite modern, and your college is not too far from your home so I think that if you have this bicycle, you can go to college by bicycle. As a result, it not only saves your monthly transportation expense, but also maintain your physical strength.

I look forward to hearing from you

kind regards

Sandeep

Overall6.5

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt effectively. You explained your reason for selling the bike (a busy job), described the bike's features (red, gears, suspension), and provided a logical reason why your friend would benefit from it (commuting to college). The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, ensure that your descriptions are slightly more vivid and that you fully develop the implications of your points, such as how the bike's specific features make it suitable for the friend's commute.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with each focusing on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'Moreover', and 'As a result' to connect your ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression between sentences within paragraphs is more fluid. For example, the transition between describing the bike's color and its technical features could be more naturally integrated.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, such as 'convenience', 'suspension system', and 'transportation expense'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'I am found of' (should be 'fond of'), 'spotty bike' (which is unclear; perhaps you meant 'sporty'), and 'all part of my bicycle' (should be 'all parts'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit your score. Focusing on more precise adjectives and correct pluralization will help you reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I got a job in well-known company' (missing article 'a'), 'along with there is one suspension' (awkward phrasing), and 'maintain your physical strength' (should be 'maintains'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, pay closer attention to article usage and subject-verb agreement, and try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
