Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mayuri,
I hope you're doing well, and this letter finds you in good health. I wanted to tell you that; I brought a new car super excited to take you on ride. Ever since, I am not using my bicycle, and it's been almost 3 months now. I would love to land by bicycle to you.
My bicycle is of Avon company specially designed for long route. It's been 3 years now the condition of bicycle is really good, as I regularly change the brakes and tires once a year. In addition, it's a top gear bicycle with 5 gears features, I have also installed a bottle holder and night light.
I know how much you loved bicycle in school days and how fascinated you're being with all the new features. This would be a great upgrade in your collection and would give you a whole new riding experience.
let me know how you feel about taking by bicycle and also send me your address where should I courier it.
Thanks

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why you are no longer using the bicycle, describing it, and explaining why your friend would like it. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly on the description of the bicycle to make it more vivid, or provide more specific details about why your friend would enjoy it, such as mentioning a specific trail or activity you used to do together. Overall, the task is fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices like 'In addition' and 'Ever since' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by minor punctuation errors, such as the semicolon usage in the first paragraph. The transition between the description of the bike and the reason for selling it is clear. To improve, ensure that your sentences are connected more smoothly and that punctuation is used to support the logical flow rather than disrupt it.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'whole new riding experience' and 'upgrade in your collection' are effective. There are some minor word-choice errors, such as 'land by bicycle' (likely meaning 'lend' or 'sell') and '5 gears features'. Additionally, 'courier it' is a bit informal but acceptable in this context. To improve, focus on more precise collocations and ensure that your word choices are accurate to the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I brought a new car' (should be 'bought'), 'I am not using' (should be 'I have not been using'), and 'how fascinated you're being' (should be 'how fascinated you are'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the misuse of the semicolon. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on verb tenses and basic sentence construction will help improve your accuracy.
